Description: In this project students will design a floor plan for a dream house. I want them to think bigger than a normal suburban two story house - more like mansion, MTV Cribs size. I want them to be creative, but grounded somewhat in reality. It is a long term (depending on how it is implemented it can last from 2-5 weeks) project designed to engage students in real-life math and provide plenty of engagement especially as the year winds down.
I’ve chosen the Dream Room/Dream House Project for my summer school students. I hope they find it engaging. It’s a tough crowd. Most of these kids failed middle school math because they were bored and chose not to work. I will have 6th, 7th and 8th graders together, so I love how this will allow them to apply middle schooI mathematics. I will let you know how it works for us.
Awesome, I look forward to hearing how about it. I woud recommend you go through the process yourself first and let me know if you have any questions. I just completed the project again – it went well, but you must be very hands on. Enjoy!
I love this project and I also read them the picture book “If I Built a House” and I show them an episode of Teen Cribs online:-)
